The Law of Attraction has taken the world by storm. "The Secret" DVD went from an from almost underground following, championed by direct sales companies, to mainly mainstream when Oprah did a whole show on this topic. And we know what happens when something gets exposure on Oprah. "The Secret" phenomeon definitely will go into the history annals as one of the defining pop culture events of 2007!
However, like most supposedly "new" things, the Law of Attraction is not new at all. In fact, it goes back to ancient days and can be supported by Biblical scripture. I first began reading about it and incorporating it into my life in the 1960s.
The basic premise of LOA is that what we think about we bring about and everything is energy -- a fact that is supported by quantum physics. With LOA, our thoughts actually vibrate into the Universe bringing the thing or things that we focus our attention and feeling on whether we like it or not. In fact, it is not so much WHAT we say or think but how we FEEEEEEL about what we say or think that makes the difference in how our lives play out. It goes beyond mere positive thinking!
The Law of Attraction may seem like a rather simple idea yet it is so profound that dozens of books have been written about it. Dr. Wayne Dyer has written an entire book on this subject -- "The Power of Intention." "Excuse Me, Your Life is Waiting" by Lynne Grabhorn is another popular book and there is a whole series of popular books and tapes by Esther and Jerry Hicks on the topic. Tune into many TV evangelists and if you listen really closely, you'll notice a Law of Attraction "bent" in the message.
Similar to what is occuring today, in the early 1900s the Law of Attraction experienced a huge wave of popularity and several books were written about the power of your thoughts. One book in particular, entitled "The Science of Getting Rich" by Wallace Wattles is enjoying a major Internet following and presence as the book was written before copyright laws went into effect. The book can be downloaded on the Internet for free and serves as the foundation for "The Secret."
As I mentioned earlier, the Law of Attraction is supported by scripture, which in my mind really gives it power. You don't have to leave your religion at the door (no matter what religion you practice) to embrace LOA principles. When you get right down it, the whole Bible deals with your thoughts and feelings, faith versus doubt, belief and trust in God. And if that's not enough, when you get to the higher esoteric levels of all the major religions a case also can be made for the connection between thoughts and feelings. That is why you'll often read about the Law of Attraction always being at work. It is the LAW -- such as the Law of Gravity is the Law of Gravity, no ifs, ands and buts about it, whether you believe it or not. The Law of Attraction is ALWAYS at work in your life!
